Register as an auctioneer
There are two types of auctioneer registration — individual and company. Australian auctioneers can register under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Arrangement.
How to register
To register as an auctioneer, follow these steps.
Step 1
Apply to the Ministry of Justice for a copy of your criminal record. This may take up to 20 working days.

Note
If you already have a copy of your criminal record that is dated no earlier than 6 months before your application, you can use this.
Step 2
Fill out the auctioneer application form relevant to your application.
Step 3
Email us or post us your completed application form and a copy of your criminal record.
Step 4
When we receive your completed application we’ll invoice you for the registration application fee. You must pay this in full before you can be registered.
Note
We can’t refund this fee if your application is unsuccessful.
Step 5
Once we’ve received your payment we’ll assess your application. This may take up to a further 20 working days.
What happens next
If we’re satisfied that you meet the registration requirements:
- your application will be accepted
- your individual or company name will be added to the register of auctioneers, and
- you’ll be issued with a registration certificate with a unique registration number and your date of registration.
If your application is refused, we’ll let you know why within 10 days from when the decision was made.
